Contemporary romance with unprotected sex :( The hero & heroine know better, & actually realize after the first time they should have used a condom, but since the heroine is on the pill, they decide to forgo. This is the 5th book in the series.
This is Tuesday's book & her hero is a new character to the series, Diesel (Daniel). Tuesday is really depressed by her father's death & that has increased her drinking. Diesel has had 3 family members, including his mother & younger brother, die within a year of each other. Plus, a really bad stock car accident that almost killed him, but left him maimed. His way of dealing is to withdraw.
They meet & sparks fly, but Diesel doesn't really think he's enough for Tuesday. He's a beta hero & she's a confident, outgoing girl.
This is a good story, but heavy on the drinking for Tuesday. Not my favorite in the series, yet, but definitely not the worst yet. I'd say in the middle of the pack.

Slow Ride Fast Track Erin McCarthy 9780425243961 Books Reviews
I enjoyed reading this series and wonder if there will be more. I like the way that the friends were tied into each other's stories and the magic of love and stock car racing combined was great.
I keep trying to find the right words for what I think of Erin's writing but all I can think of its I want more more more..... I want the story to never end and I absolutely love that we get updates of past characters in every book. The Fast Track series is awesome and I'd suggest you start at book one and get them all!
I don't understand the negative reviews. I really liked the story and the characters. I especially loved Diesel (Daniel). I liked Tuesday too. She did not always act appropriate, but she had reasons for her behavior and I empathized with her.
I am glad that I did not let the negative reviews keep me for reading this book. I enjoyed the whole series a lot.
If I don't have anything good to say, I usually say nothing. This is a big exception. I have generally liked the Erin McCarthy stories I've read, but this one is horrible. Neither of the main characters is in any way likeable. In fact they're obnoxiously disgusting. I couldn't get away from them fast enough. They're far away in my rearview mirror now, and even that's not far enough. Wish I could give it zero stars or less!
I enjoyed it, but not as I have previous books in this series. I found myself wanting to skim over stuff at times because it just didn't hold my interest.
Was this book written by someone other than Erin McCarthy?? The first chapter or two was cute and was setting up to be a really great story. And then it juts went downhill...at least for me.
The dialogue between Diesel and Tuesday was just weird...it wasn't sexy...it was just weird. And the dialogue between Diesel and everyone else was weird...He had NO voice, or he said things that I didn't think a guy like him would say...and his guy friends sounded like girls!!
For someone who LOVED the whole series so far, I was SOOOOOO disappointed with Slow Ride. There was no REAL conflict....she drank too much (which made me like her less...she seemed like a real bitch) and he was just blah. And for me to have NO CONNECTION to either of the characters is huge...I love romance and can normally find the best in all books...but this one...I skimmed through the last 35% of the Book.
The best part of the book was seeing Ryder and Suzanne interact with their baby. They seemed really happy. And all the Evan/Kendall crap with Sara and the maybe, baby...was so unneccessary.
All in all...this book was a mumble/jumble of BLAH!!
I want Erin McCarthy back.....I hope she comes back before the release of Eve's book!!
Three and half stars, I tipped it to 4 for the rating. Fresh writing and perspective but I didn't like the female protagonist, Tuesday; she was selfish, sarcastic, coarse, and obnoxious. Sometimes that can work for a character but there has to be a reveal early in the book to show her likable or vulnerable side. I realize Tuesday was going through emotional upheavals and wasn't herself but McCarthy didn't give any real insight into Tuesday's true nature that might have made her more likable and might have made the reader feel some compassion for her rather than wanting to say "Run like heck Diesel!".
I didn't get enough character depth for the male protagonist, Diesel, to love him. I think I liked him but didn't have enough info to go on. More about how he looked (other than his long hair) or the elements of his life that contributed to the person he became would have been beneficial. At one point Diesel had brown eyes, then back to blue; uh oh, some editor is not doing their job.
Tuesday just lost her father to sudden cancer. At the end of the funeral she chases her hat and ends up in front of a man,Diesel, she bursts into tears and he holds her and comforts her. At her friend's wedding she figures out who it was, Diesel, ex race driver. He had a near fatal crash 2 years earlier. He's internalized the pain, anger, and loss of esteem from the event that ended his career. She handles her emotional pain by drinking.
Spoiler alert for the rest of this review.
He drives her home from the wedding because she's smashed. He puts her to bed and leaves. They continue to see each other; having great sex and little fights about her drinking and they both have control issues. He has donated a vintage race car he's been restoring for 4 months, to her charity event for cancer in honor of her father. She's so nervous at the event and they are having a little spat that she starts drinking. She's a bit sloshed and makes an unplanned announcement to the crowd that Diesel will drive the car with the car's auction winner in the passenger seat--he had adamantly refused to drive it earlier. He's pissed and confronts her, they have a huge fight and essentially break up. What finally gets her attention that she's out of control is her mother telling her she needs to go home and when Tuesday asks why, her mother tells her that Tuesday's conduct is embarrassing her. Tuesday is mortified and horrifically drunk.
Four weeks go by where Tuesday seeks counseling and Diesel reviews the accusations Tuesday made about him not being able to open up his emotions to her and realizes she's right. As others have noted the ending was tied up too quickly.
