Deadly Bloodlines is my second book by the talented Caribbean author Elke Feuer. Take one gorgeous Caymanian murder investigator with a haunting curse, two police detectives that are obsessed with her and one who is hiding a very dark secret. Her mother was a serial killer on Grand Cayman and some say Angel may be following in her footsteps when a series of copycat killings emerge on the island. I couldn’t put this one down! All through the book the reader is trying to solve this mystery. I loved the Caymanian lexicon used as the reader will feel they are right there experiencing some of the island flavor in Grand Cayman. If you like romance, murder mystery with a surprise twist, I highly recommend this book for you! I’ll be looking forward to book two in this series.

Elke Feuer created a character that was undeniably having a very difficult life, as a child and even now, as an adult about to turn 30. Angel Mason is a very strong female, carrying serious baggage her entire life. Her mother, Meredith Mason was a convicted Serial Killer in Cayman; and sentenced to a prison in England because Cayman did not have the proper facilities for criminals with mental disorders. Meredith was convicted and sent away when Angel was 10 years old. Angel then went to live with her Aunt Maisy. She never knew who her father was. What this poor girl had to go through was beyond measure.
She grows in to a fine young lady, going off to Cambridge University and becoming a Constable. She lives in London for a few years, but returns home shortly before the 20 year anniversary of her Mother’s Murder spree ended.
The murders are happening again, there is a copycat killer out there for blood. Angel even wonders if she could be the killer….is she? Is it in her bloodline to do this? Can she ever love anyone? Can she get close to anyone?
I wanted to hug this woman! She needed a girlfriend.
I loved the cover of this book so much, and I kept reflecting back to that picture each time Angel was mentioned in the book…so, I referenced it a lot.
This book definitely kept me guessing, there were so many ways that this book could have turned out. Elke Feuer definitely has a knack for murder mysteries…telling a love story and what can go on in the mind of someone that has mental instability going on. There was a lot of factors in this book, that I think a lot of different readers would enjoy, From Murder, to Love, to Family, to Career…..she had it all in this neat little package.
Deadly Bloodlines kept me entertained with its many twist and turns. Angel Mason learned the hard way that the past always catches up with you when someone starts killing people just like her mother used to. A female serial killer… brilliant! Is Angel following her mother’s footsteps? But what are they exactly? Enters Dr. Bren McDougal, hot, smart, Scottish, in love with Angel… What could go wrong?

Elke Feuer took the time to develop the story with detailed and accurate procedures and enough red herrings to keep me guessing. She also introduced something I’ve haven’t read in books yet and for a woman originally from Central Africa, it was quite exciting to read about it. Some culture calls it Obeah but it is known by many names and without giving anything away, it is an essential part of the plot.

With many metaphors and a well thought out mystery, Bloody Deadlines is well-written, funny with compelling characters. The ending will keep you wondering and looking forward the next book.

Twenty years ago Detective Angel Mason's mother committed five murders of guests at the hotel she worked at , she had claimed that voices told her to commit the crimes. At the age of ten, Angel was then placed to live in her Aunt's care , where she lived till she went off to college. Angel Mason hasn't seen her mother Meredith since she was 18 years old. Now two months till her 30th Birthday, someone is killing guests again at the hotel and replicating her mother's murders. Angel Mason is on the case, but what happens when the evidence starts pointing back to her mother ? Has her mother got someone on the outside doing the work or is it something more sinister as Angel has started to hear the voices too and they are scaring her and she has her fingers crossed that she's not the killer this time around. As Angel visits her Aunt , she learns that the women in her bloodline are cursed and that at the age of 30, they start to hear voices which leads them down two paths - the first is suicide , the second is to actually commit the murders and we all know which one Angel's mother chose ? Which path will Angel chose or with newcomer Bren whom Angel dated in college , will he be the one needed to stop the family curse ? What will the police find though when they start to dig into Angel's Aunt's past and find several inconsistences ? Has her Aunt got a dark side and is she playing a part in these new murders ?
If you are wanting a family drama filled suspense where curses and killing can easily be part of your genetic make-up , like Dexter. Then check out Deadly Bloodlines by Elke Feuer, the first in the Deadly Series.
Romantic mystery? I don't think so. You know from the beginning who the killer is; the heroine?...has no personality or likeability. This author needs to reactions really good suspense novels and start over or better yet, get a real job.
